The project

Thyssengas is one of 16 Gas Transmission System Operators in Germany and operates 4,200km pipeline network in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. The network connects gas transmission networks from Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands, and supplies gas to 50 distribution networks, which in turn supply a population of over 10 million people and 160 commercial clients and power plants. DIF acquired Thyssengas together with EDF Invest as equal shareholders.

Employing around 330 people, the company has a long-standing history in the region and is well positioned to take advantage of the German economy’s transition to renewables. This energy shift is crucial, and the safety of gas transport is set to play a major role in it. Over 95% of Thyssengas revenues are regulated, including 90% from grid access revenues and 5% from network activities on behalf of biogas plants. The RAB is based on a 5-year regulatory framework that is governed by the Bundesnetzagentur – the German regulatory office. Future expansion in line with the German national development programme will allow the entire network to transport the more energy-efficient H-Gas by 2030.
