ESG impacts
BluEarth’s 650 megawatts of wind, hydro and solar facilities, with 2 gigawatts in development, are helping Canada and the US move to net zero by 2050. Their deep commitment to sustainability extends to day-to-day management of the assets too, for example adding 300 sheep to manage vegetation on a solar operation or building a 340-acre eco-passage in Ontario to help protect endangered species.
The firm’s social management systems mean the company builds in the highest standards of health and safety for its workers, and has a deep-rooted commitment to engage local communities in its decision-making process. This has seen them form business partnerships with local Indigenous communities on eight renewable energy facilities and created a highly-praised community investment programme investing around $100,000 annually in scholarships, food banks, mental health support and volunteering schemes.
“Leadership in renewables is about demonstrating that a transition to a low-carbon world is not only doable but cost-effective. We want to ensure our assets work in harmony with the surrounding environment and their communities.”
