The project
The Northwest Parkway (NWP) project is a 14km (9 mile) toll road that is part of the Denver, Colorado, beltway system. NWP includes 23 bridges, three interchanges, three toll points, a maintenance yard and an administrative building. The road opened to traffic in 2003 and benefits from a 99-year concession and lease agreement with the Northwest Parkway Public Highway Authority in 2007. DIF acquired a 33.3% interest in NWP alongside its consortium partners, HICL and Northleaf Capital Partners. DIF then syndicated 13% shareholding to co-investors.

Connecting with several important toll and non-toll highways, Northwest Parkway benefits from a strong traffic history and provides convenient access to residential and commercial centres in the Denver metropolitan area. Revenues are generated through a state-of-the-art, all-electronic tolling system. With 90 years remaining at the time of acquisition, this is the longest toll road concession in the US and the acquisition won North American M&A Deal of the Year for 2017 from IJGlobal.
